D I R E C T will be launched in January 2014 - meanwhile on 18th September 2013 at the Encounters Festival at the Watershed Bristol, Professor Terry Flaxton interviewed Roberto Schaefer ASC for UWE. Roberto was cinematographer on The Kite Runner, Finding Neverland, Best in Show, Quantum of Solace and numerous other Hollywood movies and will shortly become Visiting Professor of Cinematography with DIRECT. Shortly after this Roberto will be joined by Ben Smithard BSC, Emmy award winning cinematographer on Cranford, Spooks, The Trip, The Hollow Crown My Week with Marilyn and Alpha Papa, plus Geoff Boyle FBKS, DP and founder of the internationally renowned Cinematography Mailing List, as well as Professor Chris Meigh-Andrews, who will also become Visiting Professors with D I R E C T. |

DIRECT was present at the 2013 ISEA in Sydney where Professor Terry Flaxton chaired a panel on the Future of the Moving Image with papers from Dr Scott McQuire (Melbourne) and Dr Leon Gutrevitch (Wellington). This subject was then taken through to the Empyre online discussion lists |

Prof Flaxton also collaborated with Profs Dave Bull (Engineering) and Iain Gilchrist (Experimental Psychology) University of Bristol and BBC Research and Development on the World's first higher frame rate, higher resolution and higher dynamic movie. David Neal, UWE technical, was involved in the low light level shooting in April. |
