Working with Inigo Jones

Ignition Films worked in collaboration with Bristol University on what was one of the world's first High Definition DVD's generated specifically as an academic research tool. Ignition, with Martin White, Professor of Theatre at the University of Bristol, an international expert on Jacobean Theatre produced an HD DVD which documents his theatre research at the highest level. He worked with professional actors on a reconstruction of an indoor playhouse based on the Inigo Jones drawings and lit with candlelight, exactly as it would have been in the 17th century. Shakespeare's Globe will be providing costumes made using authentic methods and materials.
In December 2004, in association with Ignition Films, scenes from a variety of plays were recorded on 4 HiDef cameras (Panasonic 60fps varicam) and the footage will be authored in such a way that the user can watch the scenes from 4 different audience perspectives - in Jacobean times as now, price of seat reflected social class and therefore politic - speeches to specific audience locations reflected this fact. Other DVD elements include interviews, a computer generated VR model of the theatre, a record of the rehearsal period, documentation etc. We shot all elements of this project on the Panasonic varicam, editing on a Powermac G5 and producing the project as a standard DVD.
